Oil Painting of Venice by Francis Moltino (1818-1874)

An atmospheric oil painting by Francis Moltino depicting a scene from the Grand Canal in Venice. The painting is beautifully framed, in good condition and with no losses. The colours are vibrant and It is signed bottom left in yellow paint and can be seen with magnification.
It is clear to see that Moltino was inspired by J.M.W. Turner and the result is rather fabulous.
It has been lightly cleaned and the gilded frame restored. The canvas is mounted on board, which was likely done by the artist himself.
The canvas measures 89cm X 59cm and framed it measures 107cm X 72cm.

Francis Moltino (1818–1874), was known for atmospheric oil paintings and panoramic views of Venetian canals, gondolas, and historic Italian landmarks Moltino lived and worked in London for many years but painted luminous, warm-toned vedute (scenic cityscapes) of Venice. His style shows clearly his inspiration from J. M. W. Turner, focusing on light, water reflections, and bustling maritime activity.
He displayed his artwork at major London institutions, including the Royal Academy (between 1848 and 1855), the British Institution, and the Royal Society of British Artists.
Alongside his famous scenes of the Grand Canal, the Dogana, and Santa Maria della Salute, he also painted scenes of the River Thames in London and coastal marine views.
