A good oil on canvas signed by William Weeks (1841-1914).  “Waylaid” depicts a young girl surrounded by geese waiting to be fed,.
Housed in a good and original period gilt frame. Beautifully executed and full of atmosphere. In very good condition with the canvas very clean and having no paint loss or damage.
The frame measures 80cm X 65cm
The canvas measures 60cm X 45cm

Herbert William Weeks was a well-known London-born English genre and animal painter of the Victorian Neoclassical period who specialised in portraying animals in humorous, human-like situations.
It seems that he preferred to use his middle name and his works are mostly signed “William Weekes” or just WW.
Born: 8 May 1841, Pimlico, London.   Died: 21 November 1914, Primrose Hill, London

His work is exhibited in many English establishments including The London National Gallery and Grosvenor Gallery
