Boulle and Tortoiseshell Work Box

A 19th Century French Boullework and tortoiseshell box raised on gilt metal scrolled feet.
The interior has several compartments and all lined in the original silk.
The box exterior is in very good condition with no losses or damage.
The natural and vibrant colours of the tortoiseshell enhance the beauty of the piece.
The interior silk is in good condition commensurate with use and age.
Overall a fabulous piece in very good original condition.

There is a hand written note that we found in the box. It is difficult to read but it goes like this:
Workbox – tortoiseshell and buhl belonged to my grandmother Mrs Watkins……Rectory
London,. It became mine November 1889, Sara M Stubbs.”

The dates lead us to believe that the box could be 1830-1840.
