Pair of Regency Giltwood Wall Sconces, ca 1820
Art Deco Malachite Glass box with Reclining Nude, by Heinrich Hoffman under the direction of René Lalique
An Art Deco malachite glass box and cover by Heinrich Hoffman for Henry Schlevogt.
In excellent condition, it depicts a reposing female nude modelled in relief . There is an apochriphal “R LALIQUE” stencil on the inside of the cover.
This is a lovely example of the work of Heinrich Hoffman.
Heinrich Hoffmann (1875 – 1939) and Henry Schlevogt (1904 – 1984) were relatives and both artists, from North Bohemia who worked in continuity, sometimes with the same design molds. These molds were all exclusively pressed by the powerful family glassworks of Josef Riedel established in Polaun (Polubný).
Hoffman opened a shop selling glass jewellery in Paris in the early 1900s. After studying glassmaking in Gablonz he widened the range of his products to decorative pressed molds and flacons through the influence and artistic direction of René Lalique.
