Large Oil on Canvas in the style of Constable

A large mid- 19th century oil on canvas with a Constable-esque charm.
It depicts a countryside scene with a beautifully painted sky and figures sitting on a fallen tree. There is a village in the background.
The original gilded frame is made from wood and gilt gesso and quite grand.
The canvas has at some stage been re-lined and has had a small professional mend, which tells us that it was a valued painting by its owners. Circa 1840
