A pair of oils on tin depicting a grandmother teaching a granddaughter to knit and one of a grandfather reading to his grandson.
I am unable to decipher the signature on the paintings (see photo) but the style and dress of the characters suggest to me that they could be Dutch, Flemish or German.
As always, I am open to suggestions. I believe that they are early to mid-nineteenth century. The frames are maple wood and are of the period.
They are very finely painted with great detail. The actual painting without the frame measures 19.5cm X 16cm.
