A wonderful print of a half portrait of woman in an embroidered dress by Domenico Veneziano (1410-1461)
Printed and framed by The Medici Society around 1900, it is framed in an elaborate wooden and gilt gesso frame which is in very good condition.
The attribution to Domenico Veneziano we owe to Wilhelm Bode. Before he purchased the portrait it had been attributed to Piero della Francesca.
Latterly, the view has gained ground that this portrait was the work of Antonio Pollaiuolo. However, it is alternatively attributed to Alessio Baldovinetti.
Very pleasing on the eye and finely painted.
