A very lovely oil on canvas depicting people in Victorian costumes outside “The Pleasure Boat Inn” In Hickling, Norfolk.
\nThe painting has a French Impressionist feel and is skilfully painted by John Sutton who was a local artist. It is well framed in a gilt gesso frame. It is allover in a very good condition. Circa 1960.

John Sutton
\nJohn Sutton born in 1935, is a marine and landscape painter. He studied at the Norwich School of Art, and followed by a postgraduate year at the Brighton College of Art.<\/p>\n
Following a number of years teaching Art, an exhibition in the Assembly House Norwich, where a London art dealer saw his work and subsequently offered him a one man exhibition, allowing him to concentrate on painting full time. Following this there were exhibitions in the USA, mainly Boston and South Carolina.<\/p>\n
From the 1980\u2019s John Sutton\u2019s work was held exclusively at the Eaton Gallery in Duke Street, London, which has since closed on the death of the gallery owner.<\/p>\n
John Sutton\u2019s paintings are held in private collections worldwide, his work is also featured in the authoritative reference works, like Denys Brook Hart\u2019s \u201c20th Century British Marine Painting\u201d.<\/p>\n
Living in East Anglia where the wide skies and ever changing light create atmospheric effects on the landscape creeks and seashore.<\/p>\n
Travelling has also been the catalyst to inspire subjects for painting.
