The image is very finely painted and sits at the centre of an elaborate Stumpwork panel.<\/p>\n<p>It is embroidered extravagantly in gold and silver metal thread and other elements of stumpwork including woven metal.<\/p>\n<p>The frame appears to be original and the glass has been replaced. It is Spanish and would have hung in a church or monastery.<\/p>\n<p>SAINT RAYMOND NONNATUS<br \/>\nRaymond is the patron saint of childbirth, midwives, children, pregnant women, and priests defending the confidentiality of confession.<\/p>\n<p>Raymond was born at Portella, Catalonia, Spain. He was delivered by caesarean operation when his mother died in childbirth.
